The acquisition by Kronospan of the two Sebes-based plants of its rival Gruppo Frati is not exactly a reason for joy for furniture producers Mobexpert and Elvila, the main domestic customers of the Frati group plants.
Representatives of the two furniture producers would rather Kronospan had built its own plant in Romania, which would have increased competition in this sector.
"Gruppo Frati is the top supplier of Mobexpert company. I think we are buying about 20% of the particleboard output of the two plants of the group. We would rather Kronospan had built its own plant in Romania because Frati group would have thus become a competitor, which would have led to lower prices," said Dan Viorel Sucu, chairman of Mobexpert group, Romania's biggest furniture retailer.
Kronospan bought the Sebes-based plants owned by Frati group for 250 million euros. The Swiss company will also acquire SC MDF Sebes Frati SA, a manufacturer of MDF boards and PAL, and SC Sepal SA, which holds two lines for the production of adhesives. georgiana.stavarache@zf.ro
