The new United Statesâ Ambassador, Nicholas Taubman, presented his credentials to President Traian Basescu yesterday.
The Ambassadorâs wife was also present at the ceremony at the Cotroceni Palace. The President spoke with her as well, but they stood away from the media. Basescu congratulated Taubmanâs naming as Ambassador in Romania, guaranteeing that he would have full support from the Romanian authorities in fulfilling his mandate. In the same time, the President expressed his wish that the economical bilateral relations would get to the same level as the political dialogue.
THE BLACK SEA. In his turn, ambassador Taubman sent a message from President George W. Bush which reassured the USA strategic interest in Romania and the Black Sea region. The new Ambassador wanted to thank Romania for its significant contribution to the fight against terrorism and for promoting the agenda regarding freedom, which is a priority of the American Administration. Last, but not least, Basescu and Taubman also discussed about todayâs visit in Bucharest of American state secretary Condoleeza Rice regarding the signing of the agreement for the American military bases in Dobrogea.
