The Boromir Ind group based in Ramnicu-Valcea, one of the largest bakeries in Romania, derived turnover worth 80 million euros last year, up by 3% against 2005, as it launched new products.
"We estimate turnover will rise by 10% in 2007, to some 88 million euros," said Constantin Boromiz, general manager of Boromir company.
The producer invested 12 million euros last year, with half of the amount going to its factories in Sibiu and Deva, to the modernisation of the flour and wheat silos in Deva and of the flour silo in Sibiu.
The acquisition of the mill in Slobozia, following a tender in which Boromir participated against one of its main competitors, Vel Pitar, entailed an investment worth 1.2 million euros. The remaining money was directed towards the pretzel factory based in Buzau, as well as towards the croissant factory based in Ramnicu Valcea. The company will bank of the pretzel and croissant segments to boost production.
The mill in Slobozia, which covers a total surface area of 20,000 square metres, was a strategic investment, because it is placed at the core of the most important grain region of the country, allowing for a more efficient coordination of activities. The factory will have a production capacity of 200 tonnes of wheat per day and will serve the SE region of the country.
During the holiday season, Boromir registered rising sales volumes for specialties and traditional cakes. The Romanian consumers are increasingly busier, which generates a rising consumption of ready-made cakes.
"A rise in the consumption of ready-made traditional products is currently being noticed on the domestic market," said Boromiz.
Boromir group sold 5.2 million cakes in 2006, up by 1.2 million units against 2005. At an average price of 1.8 euros per cake, the sales on this segment may have reached approximately 10 million euros las
