The comprehensive (CASCO) insurance policy for the TAROM aircraft damaged on December 30, 2007, covers an insured sum of 10m dollars, announced Astra Asigurari, the insurer of the airline's fleet.
"On January 2 and 3, the representatives of Britain's Air Claims Service, an aviation claim assessment and settlement firm appointed by the reinsurance company, conducted, together with Astra Asigurari representatives and Tarom officials, the first evaluation of the extent of aircraft damage," reads a statement by the Romanian insurer.
After evaluation, a report on the level of damage done to the aircraft will be drawn up, on the basis of which the following stages of the claim settlement process will be decided, reads the statement.
A TAROM aircraft, a Boeing 737-300, operating the Bucharest-Sharm El Sheik flight and having 117 passengers and 6 crewmembers on board, collided with a maintenance car on the runway on December 30. Nobody was killed, but the aircraft suffered extensive damage.
The aircraft is insured by Astra Asigurari, in line with an insurance contract awarded by tender in March 2007.
The value of the premium stands at 6.98m RON for the insurance of TAROM fleet over the period May 1, 2007-April 30, 2008.
Astra Asigurari provides a comprehensive insurance policy (spare parts and equipment included) for the Romanian airline's civil aircraft for all risks and a liability insurance policy.
"In line with insurance practices and procedures and given the special risks and the high values involved, aviation insurance contracts are reinsured with international reinsurance firms," reads the statement released by Astra Asigurari.
The reinsurer for TAROM policy is Global Aerospace Underwriting Managers (GAUM), a reinsurance group made up of National Indemnity/Berkshire Hathaway, Munich Re/Great Lakes, Tokyo Mari
