Romania's interim Justice minister Teodor Melescanu argues that a European Commission report on the progress of the Romanian justice system, expected to be issued early next week, would be balanced and would not recommend the activation of the safeguarding clause if the Government complies with its commitments in the sector. The minister said he sent some corrections to the report to Brussels officials.

European Commission's report analyzes Romania's Justice sector factually and presents the actions undertook by the Ministry since the last report. Melescanu said that his Ministry needed to fully cooperate with their European counterparts in order to make sure the report is correct.

Moreover, Melescanu argued that corruption was still on the spotlight, both in Bucharest and in Brussels and that whatever the ups and downs, authorities need to fully support their commitment to fight the phenomenon.
