Tyre manufacturer Continental, one of the largest investors in Romania's automotive components industry, is set recruit another 1,350 people for its factories in Timisoara, Carei and Arad by the end of the year. In the wake of the recruitment drive, the total number of employees is set to reach 7,500.
According to Continental, the tyre factory in Timisoara intends to hire 200 people this year. Currently, the tyre manufacturer has five production facilities in Romania and 6,150 employees, a figure that includes 2,300 graduate engineers. If the proportion of engineers remains the same, the company will recruit around 500 engineers this year.
According to Continental officials, the new recruits will be hired from every region in Romania, through human resources fairs.
"We participate at most career fairs in Romania, especially those in university towns near our facilities: Timisoara, Sibiu, Iasi, Baia-Mare, Arad, as well as Cluj-Napoca, Brasov and Bucharest," explained Continental officials.
Besides participating in career fairs and organising the "Continental Career Week", where 300 internships are offered to students, the company has also developed partnerships with polytechnics outside Bucharest.
The recruitment drive will help Continental consolidate its position among the top three employers in the automotive industry and surpass rivals SEWS and Michelin, which employ a staff of 4,500 and 4,000 respectively. However, Germany's Draxlmaier remains the number one employer with almost 19,000 employees, followed by Delphi Packard, which currently employs a staff of more than 9,000, who assemble electric automotive systems in Sannicolau Mare and Ineu.
