The new owner of Bucharest-based football club Rapid, Fathi Taher hired a new manager for the team who has no connection with football whatsoever, namely Constantin Toma, who took over as club president. Toma is a business partner with Nicolae Badea, the president of rival football club Dinamo, another important football club in Bucharest.
The two have a history together, since Omniasig, a company lead by Toma, was the main sponsor of Dinamo.
Toma, 46, is vice-president of the strongest insurance company in Romania, Vienna Insurance Group, which in mid-2007 bought a majority stake in insurer Asirom. He also controls former Dinamo sponsor Omniasig, which repored a business figure of 240 million euro, according to Romanian sports newspaper Gazeta Sporturilor.
