The National Union of Judges (UNJR) sent an open letter to president Traian Basescu, accusing him of inquisitorial attitude and interference with the Justice affairs. UNJR claims that, by accusing of corruption the judges who recently decided that a local businessman may build more than the rule says in a former park, Basescu severely interfered with the Justice power.
UNJR says in the letter that Basescu must inform the Public Ministry in case he holds any information on possible corruption acts. "This is the only legal procedure in this case, for all citizens and even more for the President", the letter reads. Still, the letter warns, in the absence of such evidence, the presidential speech seriously affected the judges independence, also because Basescu did not criticize a decision, but the judges as a whole.
