Romania Foreign Minister Adrian Cioroianu resigned on Friday evening, as a result of a recent scandal caused by the death of a Romanian citizen in a Polish prison. The official investigation proved that the Romanian was innocent of the theft he was accused of, being in Italy when it occurred.
"I know that, technically, I bear no guilt, but I chose to table my resignation of honor. It is about the life of a man, which is more important than a ministerial mandate", said Cioroianu. The Prime Minister accepted the resignation on the spot. In fact, Liberal sources declared for HotNews.ro that the Prime Minister demanded Cioroianu to resign on Wednesday.
Furthermore, Cioroianu wants to consult president Traian Basescu on the name of the future minister, in order to avoid any Foreign Ministry blockage.
