How does the pursuit of profit influence the start of a business? What benefits can a business trip abroad have on growth? What kind of relationship should entrepreneurs have with employees and how to motivate them?
"Becoming your own boss also means transferring all responsibilities to yourself. Although this seems simple, success depends on the field of activity and the type of business. It also depends on how much you want to gain. There are successful businesses that started in a garage, or living room, and saw fantastic growth over just several years. I don't believe the owners of businesses like Google or e-Bay wanted to own several Boeing 737s to begin with, but they certainly wanted to create something unique.
The money came afterwards," states Catalin Armanu, manager of Brasov-based RomBowling.
The firm's two partners, Catalin Armanu and Adrian Stoica, thought up the idea of providing complete solutions to bowling alley operators after they opened a bowling alley in 1997, at a time when there were only two bowling alleys in Romania.
Visits abroad were very important when making the decision to invest in this business.
At the age of 25, when he started the business, Armanu did not have any experience in the field and therefore a period of training and intense studies followed for both him and his partner. The partnership sealed with a major US producer of bowling lanes, QubicaAMF, secured the two partners' entrance onto the Romanian market with complete systems for bowling alley operators.
The business has 30 employees, whilst for installation operations there are 10, although there were only 6 to start with. Catalin Armanu specified RomBowling employees were sent to the United States and London, and then returned with certifications in the field.
Armanu says he is trying to be a business partner to his employees
