Diplomatic relations between Romania and Israel go as far as the history of Israel - 60 years, marked on May 8. At political level, relations are almost perfect, while economic relations are fully developing, Israeli Ambassador to Romania Oren David said in an interview for HotNews.ro. Reusable energy sources and high technology are the following fields of attraction for Israeli investments while trade may reach a new dimension with diamond exports to Romania.
According to Ambassador Oren David, the number of Romanian tourists in Israel grew by 142% in the first two months of 2008 as compared to the same period last year. With the elimination of visas starting March 1, the number is expected to grow.
He said new Israeli investments are expected to be directed in the fields of water management and reusable energies.
Ambassador David also said that while Romanian authorities have recognized the Holocaust, the project to build a Holocaust memorial has yet to report progress.
He said relations with Romania have been stronger since 1989 and cover all possible components.
He said many Israeli companies chose Romania as a destination of their activities or as a hub to develop their businesses throughout the region. He counted hi-tech and communications, water management, cable structures, satellite services, hotel, real estate, banking, insurance, textile and food industries as business sectors with Israeli presence and investments in Romania.
Oren David started his term as Ambassador to Romania last year. Previously he served as head of the Economic Department of the Israeli Foreign Ministry and before that he served at the Israeli mission to the United Nations.
