The best Romanian boxer of all times, Nicolae Linca, died on Friday, at the age of 79, suffering from Parkinson and the Alzheimer disease. His wife, Elena Linca, has passed her last few years taking care of him, as he was unable even to get out of the bed.
Linca won the gold medal at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, in a match against Fred Treidt, fought with a fractured finger. Linca had 306 official fights, losing only 25 of them. He retired in 1973, as a member of the Dinamo club and was awarded the "Sports Merrit" medal, First Class, in 2005, by the Romanian president.
