Romania continues to support the approval of the Membership Action Plan (MAP) for Georgia and Ukraine, as soon as the gathering of the NATO Foreign Ministers scheduled for December 2008, said president Traian Basescu after meeting the Georgian president, Mikhail Saakashvili.
"Romania will not change its point of view on the MAP approval for Georgia and Ukraine. In December, the foreign ministers have a mandate to analyze the possibility to approve the Membership Action Plan for Georgia and Ukraine. The Romanian Foreign Minister's mandate will be to support the approval for both countries", said Basescu after the meeting with the Georgian president, Mikhail Saakashvili.
Basescu emphasized the fact that, from Romania's point of view, "Georgia's territorial integrity is essential and must be maintained. There are no events able to justify what happened in Kosovo", said Basescu.
