The chief-prosecutor in the National Anti-Graft Prosecution Office (DNA), Daniel Morar, declared in an interview for www.romaniacurata.ro (Clean Romania) that the European Commission will continue its monitoring process on the Romanian Justice system in 2009. In his opinion, such a decision is plausible and would indicate - if taken - that the fight against corruption should have the Justice system as main responsible authority.
"The way things are going, I believe that the monitoring of the Romanian Justice will continue in 2009 and will only stop when the Commission will be certain that the judicial system is allowed to function independently, without and intrusions", said Morar.
Morar says that things haven't changed at all, from the prosecutors' point of view, since 2004. High-level corruption is still a priority, according to Morar, and 40 criminal files involving such cases are already in court.
The Coalition for a Clean Romania involves civil society organizations and labor unions, including GDS, Freedom House, Academia de Advocacy, SAR, CJI, Cartel Alfa, Societatea Timisoara, Alianta Civica. The Coalition launched on Tuesday its online anti-graft portal, www.romaniacurata.ro.
