Romanians earned average net salaries 22.9% higher in 2008 than in 2007, with the highest increases in health and social care (35.9%) and education (34.4%), reads the report remitted by the National Institute of Statistics.
Pay rises in telecommunication industry
The lowest increases in net earnings were registered in the activities of radio equipment, television and telecommunication (7.9%) and financial intermediation – except insurances and pension funding- where the pay packages increased by 8% in average.
The gross average salary rose 23.5% last year, compared to a year earlier, the gross average salary registering hikes in all economic activities in 2008, compared to 2007.
INS representatives said the absolute values of annual earnings’ medians for 2008 will be made public no sooner than September 2009, in a more ample report.
The average net salary rose 9.4% in December
Romanians earned 1.489 lei (euro) in average in December, 9.4% (128 lei) more than in prior month, while the annual growth pace slowed down to 17.6%.
In November 2008, the annual growth pace of net average earning was 21.4%, Romanians receiving 1.361 lei (361 euro) in average.
The gross average salary amounted to 2,023 lei (517 euro) in December, 9.7% more than in November.
The annual growth pace of salaries remains above the labor productivity in industrial sector, of 6.2% in first 11 months in 2008, although the central bank warned repeatedly that maintaining a growth pace of earnings above the labor productivity advance will set off unbalances in economy and exerts pressure upon the inflation.
In real terms, given the inflation in the analyzed interval, the average net earning increased by 10.6%in December 2008, versus the last month of 2007.
