None of the six companies that bought the license acquisition regulation book for WiMax service licenses (broadband Internet in poor, remote or problematic regions) submitted an offer before the deadline, on Thursday, the National Telecom Authority (ANC) informed on Friday. The main cause is the 7.5 million Euros fee demanded by ANC, followed by improper coverage requirements, the discriminatory policy of ANC and its lack of vision, Vodafone officials said. As a reply, ANC said that the fee was established by the Government and that the coverage obligations represented a reasonable minimum.
"It is clear that the 7.5 million Euros price for a WiMax license is well above the current market conditions. We shall restart as soon as possible the licensing process, but we will first demand the Government to lower the tax to 5 million Euros", said Liviu Nistoran, ANC president.
