The House of Deputies approved on Tuesday the simplification of criminal investigation debut for ministers and former ministers who also won seats in the Romanian Parliament. The criminal investigation may now be approved by 50%+1 of the deputies participating in a quorum session, instead of two thirds, as the old regulation said.
The decision was approved by 177 deputies, with 6 votes against and 13 abstentions.
The rule saying that two thirds of the deputies must approve the prosecutors' notification on the launching of a criminal investigation against a minister / parliamentarian was found in 2008 as coming against the Constitution, according to a Constitutional Court decision.
The simplification of procedures comes only one day before the deputies must vote for or against the criminal investigation against former Prime Minister Adrian Nastase.
