The British Finance Minister, Alistair Darling, has once again called the European Union to offer more financial support to East European countries, currently facing difficulties because of the international financial crisis.
In case the EU states are in any difficulty, the Union should be prepared to help, said the official. One of the ways he suggests that might be used is the EU fund, created for this kind of situations. The minister emphasized that the IMF was called for too late in many situations and that, this time, the EU should intervene in proper time, before the crisis grows roots.
The EU finance ministers voted in favor of doubling the IMF resources, up to 500 billion dollars, in order to enable the institution to deal with the crisis. The project will be discussed on April 2, in London.
