Ukrainian businessman Igor Kolomoisky became Central European Media Enterprises group (CEM). The magnate holds 49% of the shares of the group that controls the Pro network, an important media trust in Romania. Kolomoisky will invest 100 million dollars and will include TET TV channel in Studio 1+1 group, owned by CEM. The transaction is schedule to conclude by end of the third 2009 trimester, according to the company's report.
The announcement came after CEM Coo Romanian Adrian Sarbu told Bloomberg the group was looking for viable solutions for the unproductive CME division in Bulgaria and Ukraine. The plan is to separate the two divisions from the rest operated by CEM in Eastern and Central Europe.
The investment is meant to finance TV channels Studio 1+1, Kino and TET TV: CEM officials and shareholders insisted that Studio 1+1 was an unproductive operation. The same agreement offers Kolomoisky the option of owning 51% of CEM shares for 300 million dollars.
The Ukrainian magnate showed his interest in CEM shares in 2007, when he paid 110 million dollars for 3% of the group's shares.
