În Congresul american a fost introdusă cu cîteva zile în urmă o Rezoluţie cu prilejul împlinirii a şaizeci de ani de la înfiinţarea postului de radio „Europa Liberă”. E reamintit cu acest prilej atentatul cu bombă din 1981 asupra sediului de la Munchen al RFE. Atentatul a fost comandat de autorităţile comuniste de la Bucureşti. Iată textul Rezoluţiei
WASHINGTON, July 31 — Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Florida, has introduced a resolution (H. RES. 641) “Recognizing the 60th anniversary of the founding of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.”
The resolution, introduced on July 14, was co-sponsored by Reps. Bob Inglis, R-South Carolina; Thaddeus G. McCotter, R-Michigan; Ted Poe, R-Texas; Christopher H. Smith, R-New Jersey; Dan Burton, R-Indiana and Gus M. Bilirakis, R-Florida. It was referred to the Foreign Affairs Committee.

RESOLUTION recognizing the 60th anniversary of the founding of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
Whereas Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) was founded in 1949 with the mission to promote democratic values and institutions by broadcasting unbiased and factual information and ideas to audiences behind the communist `Iron Curtain’;
Whereas many East European and Russian leaders, including Vaclav Havel of the Czech Republic, and the late Boris Yeltsin of the Russian Federation, have testified to the important role RFE/RL broadcasts played in ending the Cold War;
Whereas the former President of Estonia, Lennart Meri, nominated RFE/RL for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991;
Whereas Nobel laureate and former President of Poland, Lech Walesa testified to the role played by RFE/RL in Poland’s struggle for freedom when he stated that its influence `cannot even be described. Would there be earth without the sun?’;
