Holcim Romania, one of the three local suppliers of cement and aggregates, said it had invested around €11.5 mln in a building material storage and distribution facility in Bucharest.
At full capacity, the unit will be able to ship 400,000 tons of construction materials annually, from only 60,000 tons. The facility has also increased Holcim Romania’s construction material storage capacity.
“The new terminal enables the replacement of transport by car with the one by rail from the cement manufacturing plants to Bucharest, thus optimizing distribution costs and reducing impact over the environment”, said Markus Wirth, chief executive of Holcim Romania.
Earlier this year, the company has earmarked €25 mln to the construction of the production plant in Campulung, one of the three units the Swiss-based group holds in Romania.
The investments of the company totaled €133 mln last year, €7mln more than in 2007.
The cement supplier has invested another €12mln in a waste processing unit. The amount was not included in the €33mln investment budget allocated for this year.
Holcim invested €20mln in two waste processing units at its plants in Campulung and Alesd, through Ecovalor, company specialized in waste processing, fully-owned by the cement supplier.
