Apolodor Com Impex, one of the leading companies with Romanian capital on the local market, with an over 95 million-euro business, expects the construction market to record rises as late as in May 2010, at best, while at worst, the crisis will be over in September 2010.
The company, which started operations in 1992 with demolition works, is currently one of the main contractors specialising in infrastructure works. Apolodor has radically changed its strategy this year, acting as a subcontractor of the Arad-Timisoara motorway section (32 km), for the rehabilitation of Bucharest's old centre and of Lia Manoliu stadium.
Recently, Apolodor has won a contract as a general contractor for the construction of a new bridge over the Danube-Black Sea canal, worth 19.44 million euros. The bridge will be built at the 0plus540 kilometre of the canal and will connect the south of the port of Constanta and the Bucuresti-Constanta motorway, being set to link the northern part of the port of Constanta with the southern part.
"Among the factors that will generate growth next year are the resumption of direct investments in the economy. I intend to expand the number of infrastructure projects. I fondly recall the times when private contracts accounted for most of our business," says Radu Ouatu, general manager and owner of Apolodor Com Impex.
He believes the state should monitor tenders more aggressively and be more demanding when it comes to the manner in which construction works of infrastructure projects are carried out.
"In times of crisis, when money is in short supply, one must not raise barriers to companies wishing to take part in tenders, one must see that contracts are met in time and that quality criteria are fulfilled," says Ouatu.
