Stephan Maria Weber has decided to give up his post as president of Ursus Breweries, after three years at the helm of SABMiller’s operations in Romania.
“Stephan Maria Weber has decided to step down as president of Ursus Breweries for personal reasons. Under his leadership, Ursus Breweries has grown into the country’s largest brewer. We want to thank him for his contribution to the development of Ursus Breweries and wish him all success in whatever he pursues. The successor of Stephan Weber at the helm of the company will be announced at a later date”, said James Wilson, managing director of SAB Miller Central and Eastern Europe.
Stephan Maria Weber (photo) was appointed as President of Ursus Breweries in November 2007. Weber succeeded Dieter Schulze who after four years in Romania has been appointed President of Kompania Piwowarska, the Polish subsidiary of SABMiller.
Stephan-Maria Weber has been Sales and Distribution and Trade Marketing Director for Europe for three and a half years. During this time, he was the key player in developing the strategy of the European Sales and Distribution and Trade Marketing Organisation to become a consumer oriented and market facing unit.
Commenting on the appointment, Alan Clark, SABMiller’s chief executive said, “Building on the growth momentum of URSUS Breweries, Stephan will lead the organization as we expand our production capacity and further strengthen our robust brand portfolio, making the challenge for market leadership.”
During his mandate, Ursus Breweries completed one of the biggest acquisitions in local FMCG industry, in a €7 mln deal.
Ursus Breweries is based in Bucharest and holds 4 brewing plants in Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Buzau and Brasov and employs over 1,500. Ursus Breweries’ brands are Peroni Nastro Azzurro, URSUS, Redd’s, Timisoreana, Stejar, Ciucas and Pilsner Urquell.
