Sun Plaza, the biggest mall in Bucharest, developed in the wake of a 200 million-euro investment, will not bring major novelties in terms of tenants when it opens, on February 25th, except for the South of Bucharest.
Most Sun Plaza tenants already have stores in Romania, considering that the prospects of retail expansion are low this year, and entries onto the Romanian market almost frozen.
Sun Plaza comes with ten stores, its biggest, which are not present in any of its three direct competitors - Vitantis, Grand Arena, and City Mall.
"The only way to enter the Romanian market with new brands is through franchise operators which, despite a difficult 2009, managed to preserve a good position on the market. Expansions of big and medium-sized companies have been scheduled for this year, although their projects are not as easily approved by the managing structures as before. In Sun Plaza, most retailers have already been present on the market for a good few years," said Ilan Laufer, general manager of real estate consultancy Retail Group. What are the novelties brought by the mall? Direct access to the Bucharest underground and the fact that retailers Cora, Mobexpert, Inditex, C&A, and BauMax are entering a shopping centre in southern Bucharest for the first time, covering an area with around 400,000 inhabitants.
