Romtelecom, no. 1 on the Romanian fixed telephony market, will restructure its Operations department, the company's largest, making more than 20% of its overall number of employees redundant, i.e. around 600 people, according to an announcement of the operator.
The redundancies come in the context of the reorganisation, as well as in the wake of investments in new technologies, which make some positions within the operator unnecessary. After introducing software that automates certain operations, Romtelecom no longer needs certain specialised technicians, according to information supplied by the operator. One of the biggest changes will affect field work. Whilst at present the around 1,200 Romtelecom teams consisted of two people, after the restructuring there will be one single technician, who will also drive the car. All employees leaving the company will receive severance pay, according to Romtelecom.
