HP Romania, the local subsidiary of the world's largest PC manufacturer, posted a higher net profit than the 5.4 million euros recorded in 2008, having rendered its operations more efficient, despite a decline in revenues.
"2009 was a bad year for HP Romania. The company lost last year what it gained in 2008, but the business was more profitable, so we did not operate redundancies," said Radu Enache, general manager of the company.
Hewlett Packard's local subsidiary posted a 224.3 million-RON (60.9 million-euro) turnover in 2008, according to data published by the Ministry of Finance, 21% more than in 2007, whilst its net profit fell by 27.5%, to 20 million RON (5.4 million euros).
Enache also mentioned that HP Romania would hire 600 staff at its Global eBusiness Operations (GeBOC) in Bucharest, which has over 2,000 employees at present. The head of HP Romania said the company management targeted a 20% market share this year, from 17% in 2008.
