Metrorex, the company managing the Bucharest underground, this year is tendering investment projects totally worth above 1.2bn RON (300m euros), through which unfinished works for section 4 (1 Mai-Pajura-Parc Bazilescu), as well as Line 5 (Drumul Taberei-Eroilor) will be carried out. 1 Mai-Parc Bazilescu will be finalised in the first half of 2011, while works for Drumul Taberei-Eroilor will end in 2015. Thus, in 2011 the capital city is likely to become again a site for underground works, as it happened before the '90s, considering the project related to the underground line to Otopeni airport will be added to the two above-mentioned projects. "This year, works will be carried out for the 1 Mai-Parc Bazilescu section, to be finalised in the first half of 2011, and Section 5 Drumul Taberei-Eroilor, for which tenders are underway, with works most likely to start at the end of summer. We have the necessary funds for these projects from the state budget and foreign loans," stated Gheorghe Udriste, general manager of Metrorex.
