With 10,000 RON invested in the ten stocks forming the BET index, an investor would have gained 18,000 RON over the past year, and a similar investment in bank or SIF (financial investment companies) shares would have generated over 24,000 RON profits. The profit could have gone as high as 60,000 RON had one bet on Condmag Medias (COM).
After a disastrous 2008 for stock market investors and a start of 2009 that dashed all hopes of ever recouping something, in March the market showed the first signs of a rebound. Those that were bold enough to bet on the market rebound in the beginning and had the money to do it, were able to get fabulous profits in one year, which will be hard to match over the coming years.
"I had clients who had a hard hit portfolio before and no longer had the courage to take a chance and now are sorry they didn't, and clients who went ahead and took it, came up with more money and won," says Ciprian Zah, the broker of Cristescu brothers who gained 5.7 million RON in the past year betting on Dafora Medias shares that rose 500%.
