The associations of business owners in the construction sector, a market worth 12 billion euros a year, equivalent to 10% of the GDP, say investment projects of the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism - building 100,000 homes for young people, 25,000 homes in the countryside and rehabilitating 10,000 county roads are too small and too few to revive the construction market, and that their starting point is uncertain. The Minister of Tourism told builders their projects would start this year and "would extend over an unlimited period."
"I myself am unhappy about how and how much is being built in Romania and we want to do more as far as investments are concerned, that is why I am here, because I want us to build more and better," Udrea said at the "Mediafax talks about construction" seminar organised in partnership with the Construction Companies' Owners Association (PSC) and AdePlast.
Unlike other ministers who attend such conferences, Udrea stayed throughout the entire duration of the seminar and addressed every issue raised by construction companies. Cement consumption declined 27.8% last year, to 7.8 million tonnes, whilst demand for thermal-insulating masonry fell by over 50%.
