Opera Software, owner of one of the most used browsers in the world, wants to gain another 20 million users worldwide in 2010.
The market share of the Opera browser in Romania, currently at 7%, will rise after Microsoft has been forced by the European Union to allow users to choose their browser when they buy a PC running Windows, Johan Borg, vice-president of consumer engineering within Norwegian-held Opera Software, told ZF. "The decision, which came into force on March 1st, and which allows users to choose their preferred browser is to our advantage, because we can boost our market share and number of users," Borg says.
Following a long dispute with the European Union amid accusations of non-compliance with the rules of competition, Microsoft, the world's biggest software manufacturer, allows users a choice of 12 browsers when buying a computer running Windows.
The company has 100 million users worldwide, both for the computer browser and for that dedicated to mobile devices.
