The "First Home" scheme saved 500 companies and 9,500 jobs, Premier Emil Boc told the Parliament yesterday, where he was invited to present a strategy for saving jobs, given that more than 440,000 employees disappeared from the official statistics in 2009 alone and more than 22,000 companies have gone insolvent since the beginning of last year.
The Premier did not provide a concrete explanation as to how the companies and jobs were saved, but said there were encouraging signs in the economy, which showed Romania was capable of overcoming the economic crisis.
"The signs are starting to show, rating agencies are already putting Romania on a better position, industrial output is going up, unemployment rate is 2% lower than the European average and (there's also) the success of eurobonds on foreign markets. These are signs that we're heading in the right direction," the Premier said.
The economy fell 7% last year, and the private sector was severely hit by the shortage of cash and the decline in sales.
