The two airports visited by experts of the SCHEVAL working group within the mission to assess the Romanian state in view of joining the Schengen area, Henri Coandă Bucharest and Traian Vuia Timişoara, will be certified by the end of the year, respectively by June 2010, informed the Ministry of Transport, at the request of the Curierul Naţional.
Asked about the objectives and investments to be achieved until certification, the representatives of the Transport Ministry answered that each airport sets its objectives and investments in order to meet the conditions provided by Government Decision 791/2009.
"For the airports of Henri Coandă Bucureşti and Traian Vuia Timişoara, given that they are visited by the experts of the SCHEVAL working group within the mission to assess the Romanian state in view of joining the Schengen area, the investments made to meet the standards set by the Schengen Catalogue coincide with those made in order to meet the conditions provided by Government Decision 791/2009 for certification as international civil airports", reads the answer of the Transport Ministry.
The Henri Coandă International Airport Bucharest (AIHCB) is carrying out an investment project called "Phase III of development and modernisation", which, among others, also meets the standards provided by the Schengen Catalogue. The deadline for the parts of the project through which the Schengen standards are met is December 2010.
"We are mentioning that the AIHCB has also prepared a contingency plan that ensures compliance with the Schengen requirements in case the mentioned programme is not finalised in time", the representatives of the Transport Ministry point out.
