General insurance company, Uniqa posted a 4% decline in gross premiums written to 486.64 million lei (€115 million), versus 507 million lei a year earlier, according to the preliminary unaudited data.
The premium volume written came in below estimates, as in December 2009, the insurer had expected total GPW of 513.84 million lei.
The number of insurance contracts concluded in 2009 stood at 641,835, with gross premiums written for Auto Casco insurances totaling 267.31 million lei or 55% of total insurances. In the civil auto liability segment, gross premiums written rose 3.3% to 163 million lei.
Total value claims increased 5% in 2009 from a year earlier, to 409.51 million lei.
In Jan-Sep period, Uniqa (former Unita) had reported a net profit of 9.2 million lei (€2.2 million).
Uniqa is a subsidiary of the namesake parent company. Uniqa is one of the largest insurance companies in Central Europe, and runs operations in Slovenia, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Serbia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, Poland, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Liechtenstein, Albania, Macedonia, Kosovo and Montenegro. Uniqa’s global GPW rose 1.2% to €5 billion.
