Vodafone customers will be able to receive free text messages whenever people in their Twitter friend network post a new tweet.
Customers of the second largest mobile telecom carrier will be able to receive notifications from certain persons they follow on Twitter and request that text updates be switched off between certain hours.
The mobile Vodafone Internet service will enable users to update their Twitter status or send tweets through mobile Twitter or via text messages.
“The new service is an upgrade of the communication tools we offer to our customers. The partnership with Twitter addresses consumers’ need for real-time interaction from their mobile phones”, said Catalin Becic, consumer marketing director Vodafone Romania.
“The partnership enables us to provide Romanian users access to Twitter service over SMS. This way they will be connected to the latest information and post tweets by sending one text message”, said Kevin Thau, Director of Mobile Business Development at Twitter.
To send and receive tweets, users will have to text “START” to 89338 (TWEET), or activate the service from the settings of the Twitter account on “Mobile” section. Twitter status update can be made by sending a text message to 89338 for €0.05/SMS.
For additional information, Vodafone customers can send a free-of-charge SMS to 8877 with “twitter” and will receive a link they can visit from their mobile phones.
