The Bucharest City Hall (PMB) has got a project under way aimed at making car traffic more efficient in central Bucharest, a project that includes new one-way streets and lanes dedicated to public transport.
According to representatives of the Bucharest City Hall, the lanes dedicated to public transport will only run on avenues that allow it, with a study being conducted for this purpose.
"We are seeking to reorganise transport in the central part of Bucharest. We have already approved a project that will define public transport lanes, taxi stations, intermodal points and one-way streets for Bucharest's inner road ring. The project has a one-year implementation term, as well as intermediate terms," said Ion Dediu, director of the Transport Department of the Bucharest City Hall," at the event "Taxi services in Bucharest, a business card for an European capital", organised by The Diplomat and SGS Romania.
The system being discussed is largely similar to that implemented in London, where routes dedicated to public transport and to taxis are clearly assigned, and where drivers who fail to stick to the assigned route receive a penalty.
