The Czechs at CEZ energy group say they have finalised the installation of 70 wind turbines in Fantanele commune, the first stage of the 600-MW wind power project, similar to a reactor of the Cernavoda power station they are developing in Dobrogea (SE Romania). The only thing the Czechs need in order to start energy generation is approval from Transelectrica, the national energy transmission company, for the voltage transformation substation to be connected to the national grid. A transformation substation is an electric installation used to transfer power between two different voltage grids.
By autumn, the Czechs will build another 69 wind power turbines, with Fantanele to become the largest operating wind power project yet. The project, which entails the setting up of another 101 wind power turbines in Cogealac, will be operational next year and will then be the biggest onshore wind power farm in Romania, in the wake of a 1.1 billion-euro investment.
