The disruptions to air traffic in Europe, after a volcano in Iceland erupted last week and began spewing ash into atmosphere, have had an indirect impact on the businesses of local companies: flight ban for employees and cancelation of an event organized by a training company, are only a few of the consequences of the ash cloud that grounded flights in Europe, as cited by managers interviewed by Wall-Street.
Flight ban for P&G employees
Products shipments of Procter & Gamble were not disrupted by the air traffic ban, as the company depends on road and rail freight to ship products. P&G has a manufacturing facility in Timisoara, that produces detergents. The Timisoara unit exports around 60% of its total output estimated at around 100,000 tons per year.
However, the air traffic interruptions have imposed a flight ban for P&G employees, according to Ramona Brad, external relations group leader P&G Romania.
“Our daily connections with the P&G management in Europe suffered the most. Therefore, we resorted to modern video conferencing or conference calls system, that we introduced in Romania twp years ago. And it will remain the best solution until flights are resumed. And that because many of our employees have been left stranded in airports across the globe, and now efforts are made to collect them and take to destinations”, said Ramona Brad (photo).
The company has put off by one week the first test stage at the shampoo and hair care products manufacturing plant in Urlati that is expected to go into operation in June, because several P&G officials in Europe were unable to fly to Romania.
