Betty Ice ice-cream producer targets 20% turnover growth this year against 2009, with the same promotion budget it has banked on in recent years, of around 300,000 euros. The company, among the 3-4 largest players on the market, last year registered a similar turnover advance. "In 2009, Betty Ice posted sales of around 80m RON (18.9m euros), up 20% year-on-year. We plan to keep up this pace in 2010," stated Vasile Armenean, Betty Ice owner. The company's turnover may be estimated at 23m euros in 2010. Market competition has tightened up in the past year, with the launch of Algida, Unilever's ice-cream arm, in Romania. Armenean also specified that in 2009 the market was saved by the fact that summer temperatures were favourable for ice-cream consumption. The company's plans for this year include the launch of new ice-cream products. Betty Ice has a plant in Suceava, with a capacity of around 100 tonnes of ice-cream per day. In recent years, the producer has also invested in the development of its own network of ice-cream shops.
