The largest number of homes have been built in counties where the biggest and most powerful cities in Romania are located - Bucuresti-Ilfov, Cluj, Constanta, Timis, and Iasi. The top ten also includes counties in Moldova, such as Suceava or Neamt, where remittances of locals working abroad gave an impetus to the housing market, reveal data from the Statistics Institute.
Ten counties accounted for more than half of the 62,520 homes built last year in Romania, while ten other counties saw less than 4,000 homes built, accounting for only 6% of the total, reveals a ZF analysis based on data from the National Institute of Statistics.
The Bucuresti-Ilfov area tops the ranking with over 8,000 homes, followed by Cluj (6,720), Suceava (4,013), Constanta (3,943), and Iasi (2,997), while at the bottom of the ranking are Mehedinti (118), Tulcea (262), Teleorman (281), Caras-Severin (308) and Covasna (321).
The counties are differentiated by the number of inhabitants, as well as by the financial strength of county capitals. A large number of homes were also built in counties such as Neamt and Suceava, in part with the financial support of locals working abroad.
