Giant German Deutsche Bahn transporter cut 300 jobs after reorganisation of Romanian-based Schenker Romtrans, which resulted from the merger last year of Schenker and freight forwarder Romtrans.
At present Schenker Romtrans, which carries freight by road, by rail, by air, and by sea, has 1,144 employees, 20% fewer than in 2008. After all the steps taken by the company management, officials announced they were expecting a 294 million-RON (70.5 million-euro) turnover, similar to last year's euro-denominated turnover, and up 15% in RON. The bulk of the company's business is generated by international freight transport. "Exports will contribute 58% of this year's turnover, compared with 52% last year," company officials say.
At the end of 2008, DB Schenker, one of the world's biggest providers of transportation services, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bank, with 19 billion euros in turnover across 130 countries, paid 90 million euros to take over Romtrans freight forwarder.
