"I was for a day in Greece last week and the situation there is similar. We need to heal the economy and for this we need to take medicine which taste bad, but are necessary", European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek said during his official visit to Bucharest, Romanian news agency Agerpres informs.
"The need for tough reforms is connected with a socialist government" in Greece. "In Romania, there is a centre-right government, but my message is the same, regardless the political power. The message is that we need to get through this difficult period and, i a few months' time, we in the EU will be proud for having come out of it", the European official added, after the meeting on Wednesday morning, June 9, with the Deputies' Chamber Speaker Roberta Anastase.
"If today we look with a sort of envy at the fact that Poland seems to go through the economic crisis slightly glnter than other countries, this is also thanks to the Prime Minister a few years ago, the current EP President Jerzy Buzek, who managed to apply certain reforms that have shown their effects today", Roberta Anastase said.
The European Parliament president Jerzy Buzek is currently in his one-day official visit to Romania. The agenda includes meeting President Traian Basescu, PM Emil Boc, the Senate's Speaker Mircea Geoana and Foreign Affairs minister Teodor Baconschi.
His visit to Romania was initially planned for April, but it had to be cancelled because of the Polish nation's mourning following the plane crush in Smolensk, Russia, when the Polish President and several tens of Polish officials lost their lives.
