The legislative proposal regarding the setup and operation of Societatea Română de Radiodifuziune (SRR - Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company) and of Societatea Română de Televiziune (SRTV - Romanian Television Company) received 17 votes "in favor", 14 "abstentions", and 41 senators voted "against". The report of the Senate Culture Commission was in favor of the legislative proposal but had brought amendments.
The legislative proposal mainly aimed to remove politics from the management of SRTV and SRR.
During the debates, a group of approximately 20 SRTV and SRR trade unionists assisted the proceedings. When it came time to vote, the trade unionists which were on the balcony indicated to the senators to reject the proposal. Under these circumstances, the old law will be applied until a new legislative initiative comes up. (D.P.)
