Fast moving consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble is preparing to start production in Urlati, near Ploiesti, with the first Head & Shoulders, Pantene, and Wash & Go shampoos made in Romania to become available in stock or even hit the shelves in July.
"We will officially inaugurate the Urlati plant at the end of September, with the first hair care products to leave the factory in July," said representatives of P&G Romania.
This is Procter & Gamble's first greenfield project on the Romanian market.
The company will mainly produce for export market from the outset, with the target markets being Balkan countries, as well as Turkey, Russia, and Ukraine.
In order to start local shampoo production, the American company has recruited over 150 people so far, with investments in this project put by P&G at 100 million dollars. Further production lines will be added after 2010, as well.
Procter & Gamble, whose portfolio also includes brands such as Ariel, Pampers, and Gillette, reported 280 million euros (1,186 million RON) in turnover through its distribution division in Romania last year, down 11% on 2008.
