An online Dacia Duster advertising campaign wherein the SUV was presented as the "environmentally friendly" model was forbidden by the French Publicity Deontology Jury. Even the new slogan - "Friendlier to the environment" - is considered false and manufacturer Renault has been asked to stop this campaign.
The sanction came after the Dacia Duster model was targeted by a complaint made by the Agir pour l'Environnement association.
The Deontology Jury issued a press release stating that the slogan used in the Dacia Duster ad - "The new Dacia 4x4: friendlier to the environment at a never before seen price" - would confuse Internet users and violates the provisions of the Sustainable Development Recommendation of the ARPP (Professional Publicity Regulation Authority). The jury showed that the average carbon dioxide emissions of the Duster model (159 grams/km in the 4x2 version and 172 grams/km in the 4x4 version) are above current French averages (133 grams/km).
However, Duster is categorized by the jury as "a well position 4x4 family Diesel in terms of CO2 emissions", which are under a Volkswagen Tiguan, Ford Kuga or a Lada Niva GPL.
The association that notified the jury considers that the sanction for Renault-Dacia, which consisted in a simple press release and withdrawing the ad is "too little, too late". (V.M)
