Companies pay an average of 10 to 20 euros for a subscription negotiated with private clinics for their employees, reveals a Ziarul Financiar survey based on data supplied by the companies.
The healthcare subscription is the most widely offered employee benefit, which generally includes free of charge medical examinations and price cuts for tests, and even free of charge tests. The subscription does not, however, cover hospital care costs and complex medical investigations.
Most operators of private medical services built their business based on these healthcare subscriptions, which sometimes account for as much as 50% of the turnover. At present there are almost 400,000 corporate subscriptions on the Romanian market, according to estimates of research company PMR.
The market of private medical subscriptions offered by companies to employees could amount to around 70 million euros a year if one considers an average 15-euro subscription per month and 400,000 subscribers. Subscriptions should compete with private insurance, but the latter is a market worth only 8-10 million euros.
