Swedish clothing retailer H&M, with 10 billion euros in turnover in 2009, will open its first stores in Romania in the spring of next year, choosing to enter the Romanian market through Bucharest's oldest shopping centres - Unirea Shopping Center, controlled by the Adamescu family, and malls Bucureşti Mall and Plaza Romania, owned by Turkish-held Anchor Grup.
The Swedes are for the time being only talking about a mall located in western Bucharest, Plaza, but the other two contracts are also in the course of being signed, according to ZF information.
"This is right, we confirm today that Romania is one of H&M's newest markets, starting in the spring of 2011. H&M has signed a contract for the first store in Bucharest, Romania. We will open a store in one of the biggest shopping centres in Romania, located in western Bucharest. It is still too early to give further details about the store," H&M representatives told ZF.
The Swedes are expected to open an around 1,400 square-metre store on the ground floor of Plaza Romania, where the first Zara store was opened in Romania six years ago.
