Only half the hotel rooms in Romanian seaside resort Mamaia were occupied by tourists in June, with hotel operators collecting around 10 million euros, 50% less than if the hotels operated at full capacity, according to ZF calculations.
June saw 250,000 tourists spend their holiday in the best-known Romanian seaside resort, according to data centralised by the Association for the Promotion of the Romanian Seaside until 27th of June, with the average accommodation rate per night being 40 euros per person.
Around 10,000 tourists were accommodated in Mamaia hotels per night on average, with the resort being able to accommodate an overall 20,600 tourists, according to the same source.
"The situation in Mamaia and across the entire Romanian seaside can be explained by the fact that Romanians have chosen more attractive offers from hotel operators in Bulgaria and Greece. The Romanian seaside competes with the Bulgarian one, with the latter seeing a rise in demand from Romanians thanks to all-inclusive offers," said Mircea Vladu, owner of Prestige Tours travel agency.
