Orange, the domestic subsidiary of France Telecom giant, is the only telecom company in Romania to have reported turnover of above 1bn euros last year, reveal the data included in the 2009 reports the biggest domestic communications operators filed with the Trade Registry. Orange last year reached turnover worth 4,425m RON (1.044bn euros), while the operator's main rival, the domestic subsidiary of UK's Vodafone group, reported turnover worth 3,938m RON (929.4m euros). In RON, Orange's revenues dropped by 286m RON (6%) from 2008, while Vodafone posted 436m RON (10%) lower turnover. Orange, leader of the Romanian telecom market, generated net income worth 270.7m euros, down 38% from 2008, while Vodafone had a 244.5m-euro net income, down 20%. Zapp's turnover dropped by almost 40% in euros last year, to 36.9m euros. Romtelecom in 2009 generated net income worth 113m RON (26.7m euros), from 3.9m RON (1m euros) in 2008. RCS&RDS, the biggest telecom firm controlled by a Romanian, last year reached 391.4m-euro turnover, up 1.2%, and net income worth 50m euros, from a 23m-euro loss in 2008. UPC Romania, second on the TV services market, posted 116m-euro turnover in 2009, down 15.6% in euros.
