Local drug manufacturers will boost their exports by an average 20% this year, according to ZF calculations based on data provided by companies, with players announcing their strategy to strengthen their external presence as early as in the beginning of the year.
"We are happy to export because we collect the money faster, even from countries in the ex-Soviet bloc. Our business is on the rise, but based on exports," said Drago[ Damian, CEO of Terapia Ranbaxy producer and president of the Association of Generic Drugs Manufacturers in Romania (APMGR).
Romanian drug exports are put at less than 100 million euros this year, far lower than imports, which amount to 1.7 billion euros per year.
The biggest drug exporter is Actavis, whose exports amounted to 28 million euros last year, with the company budgeting a 15-20% rise for this year.
Another producer boosting its exports is LaborMed, which entered several markets through the acquisition of Ozone brands last year.
