Romtelecom, one of Romania's biggest communications operators, is looking for a new head for its TV services unit, a business worth above 40m euros per year, after Miroslaw Smyk, the current manager, decided to leave the company on July 1, telecom market sources told ZF. Romtelecom representatives confirmed the information, without providing any further details. "We're carrying out a recruitment process," said the company's representatives. Miroslaw Smyk, 31, is the manager who has led, since December 2007, Romtelecom's strong expansion on the domestic TV services market and prepared the launch of IPTV and HD TV services. During his term, the company gained almost 500,000 clients on the satellite TV segment and came to hold the third position on this market. He was also in charge with "building" offers and keeping them profitable in spite of tough market competition. The new head of Romtelecom's TV operations will have the task to drive the company onto the leading position in around three years. He will also have Romtelecom's cable TV strategy on his agenda. Moreover, he will have to outline Romtelecom's strategy on the TV market once Romania shifts from analogue to digital television in 2012.
